General Motors stated that the recently launched Corvette E-Ray hybrid sports vehicle would be for over $104,000
January 18, 2023: General Motors’ initial “electrified” Corvette will be present in 2023, beginning at over $104,000, the automaker stated on Tuesday.
The vehicle will be all-wheel drive, one more first for the quintessential American sports vehicle.
The carmaker stated that the E-Ray would be the earliest production Corvette ever. It will get 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, a quarter mile in 10.5 seconds, a few supercars, and the current Corvette Z06 track car.
“It’s a testament to bringing that this car has shown throughout its 70-year legacy and certainly represents the future of what this vehicle is capable of delivering going forward,” Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, stated during a briefing.
An all-electric Corvette is anticipated at a point, but GM has yet to announce the timing for the EV version. The Detroit automaker plans to offer all-electric vehicles by 2035 exclusively.
The E-Ray’s hybrid people features an electric motor on the front axle that gives 160 additional horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. It provides a quicker takeoff over a traditional internal combustion engine.
GM stated that the E-Ray generates a combined 655 horsepower from the electric motor and a tiny-block V-8. It will be available as a coupe and convertible.
Officials stated that
the E-Ray was developed before such plans, in conjunction with the development of the eighth-generation Corvette, or C8, debuting in July 2019. The car was the initial Corvette to feature a midengine design instead of the engine located in the front of the vehicle.
According to Harlan Charles, Chevrolet Corvette product marketing manager, the hybrid system was designed explicitly for the eighth-generation Corvette. The battery system was charging mostly through regenerative energy from coasting and braking and during everyday driving.
GM decided on a hybrid Corvette rather of a PHEV because it offered better overall performance.
“The mission of this vehicle lived performance, performance, performance,” said Mike Kociba, lead Corvette development engineer. “Every kilogram or pound had to earn its way in from a mass standpoint. It hurt rendition, plain and simple.”
