
According to an internal memo, Tesla is suspending display at its Shanghai plant
January 02, 2023: -On Saturday, Tesla suspended production at its Shanghai plant, according to an internal notice and two individuals with knowledge of the matter. This brings a plan to pause work at the plant in the previous week of December.
The U.S. automaker was cancelling the morning shift and told all workers at its most productive manufacturing hub they could begin their break, said the people and the notice by witnessed Reuters.
Reuters stated that the electric car giant planned to break Model Y production at the plant from December 25 to January 1.
The suspension comes among an increasing wave of infections after China eased its zero-Covid policy this month, an abrupt move welcomed by companies and the public but heavily that disrupt business operations in the short term.
One of the people stated that workers at Tesla and its suppliers have also fallen sick as part of this wave, which challenged operations in the past week.
Tesla grapples with elevated inventory levels as its second-largest market braces for a downturn.
The person added that the Shanghai plant has been focusing on making export models in the last week.
Reuters reported that the plant’s suspension of Model Y assembly at month end would be part of a cut in scheduled production of about 30% for the model, Tesla’s best-selling model, at the Shanghai factory.
The Shanghai factory, the most consequential manufacturing hub for Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company, maintained normal operations during the last week of December in the previous year.
It has yet to be an established practice for the plant to close for a year-end holiday.
