PSE&G Approved to Continue Modernizing Gas System

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has approved a settlement allowing Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) to continue modernizing its aging natural gas system. The settlement reached between PSE&G and the BPU staff will allow PSE&G to invest $902 million over two years to replace at least 400 miles of aging pipes with modern ones.
The modernization of PSE&G’s gas system is important for safety and reliability. The company’s gas pipes are some of the oldest in the country, and many are cast iron, which is more prone to leaks and breaks. The new pipes installed as part of the modernization project are made of plastic or steel, which are more durable and less likely to leak.
In addition to improving safety and reliability, the modernization of PSE&G’s gas system will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The new pipes are more efficient than the old ones and will help reduce methane leaks, a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.
The BPU’s settlement approval is a victory for PSE&G and its customers. Modernizing the gas system will make it safer and more reliable, and it will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The BPU has approved a settlement allowing PSE&G to continue modernizing its aging natural gas system. The settlement is important for safety, reliability, and environmental protection.
