Anne Frank’s Hidden Home Exhibit Opens in New York

January 29, 2025: A new exhibition dedicated to Anne Frank, titled Anne Frank’s Hidden Home, has opened in New York, offering an immersive look into the secret annex where the young diarist and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II. The exhibit, located at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Lower Manhattan, seeks to transport visitors into the confined space where Anne, her family, and four others lived in hiding for over two years before their arrest in 1944.

Unlike traditional museum displays, the exhibit features a meticulously recreated version of the Amsterdam annex, allowing visitors to experience the cramped conditions Anne described in her famous diary. Archival materials, personal artifacts, and video testimonies from Holocaust survivors further contextualize the period. Anne’s writing desk is one of the exhibit’s focal points, where she penned the thoughts that would later make her one of history’s most recognized voices.

Organizers hope the exhibit will serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of antisemitism, totalitarianism, and discrimination. The opening comes amid a global rise in antisemitic incidents, making Anne’s story especially relevant today. Museum officials stress that the exhibition is about the past and understanding present threats to human rights.

The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam collaborated on the exhibit, ensuring historical accuracy and authenticity. This New York installation is expected to draw thousands of visitors, including students, educators, and historians, as it offers a compelling educational experience.

The exhibition runs through the end of the year, with plans for potential extensions or traveling displays. Tickets are available through the museum’s website, and educators can access specialized programs to incorporate Anne Frank’s story into their curricula.
