
Torrential downpours and flooding kill nearly 7 in Seoul

August 10, 2022: -Almost seven people died in the South Korean capital of Seoul and the metropolitan area overnight, authorities said, after torrential rain knocked out power and left roads and subways drowned.
The southern part of Seoul received over 100mm of rain each hour late on Monday. A few features of the city have received 141.5mm of rain, the worst rainfall in 80 years, the local media, which cited the Korea Meteorological Administration, said.
With more rain forecast, the collected precipitation in Seoul stood at 420mm as of 5 a.m. Tuesday.
In the glitzy, highly potent Gangnam district, some buildings were without power and had been inundated, while cars, buses, and subway stations were inundated, leaving people to quit. Some stores had also been under water.
At least five people died in Seoul and two others in the neighboring Gyeonggi Province as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters expressed. Four existed killed after being entangled in flooded buildings, one was electrocuted, one was found beneath the wreckage of a bus stop, and one more died in a landslide, it added.
Almost nine people in the areas were wounded, while six went missing. The headquarters presented the crisis alert to the most elevated and requested public and private organizations to adjust their working hours.
The KMA issued heavy rain warnings across the capital and the metropolitan region and parts of Gangwon and Chungcheong Province.
Such advisories are given when rainfall is expected to reach 60mm in three hours or 110mm in 12 hours.
The KMA expects heavy rainfall for the central part of the government to persist through at least Wednesday.
