Oil tanker struck by a bomb which includes drone off Oman, according to the officials
November 17, 2022: -A bomb which carries a drone has struck an oil tanker associated with an Israeli billionaire off the coast of Oman between the advanced pressures with Iran, an official commented to The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The Mideast-based defence official said the attack happened Tuesday night off the coast of Oman.
The official spoke anonymously as they were not authorized talking the attack publicly.
The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations, a British military agency in the region overlooking shipping, told the AP, “We are well aware of an incident, and it’s standing investigated at this time.”
The official recognized the vessel attacked as the Liberian-flagged oil tanker Pacific Zircon. That tanker is managed by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, a firm ultimately owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer.
A dialling number for Eastern Pacific rang unanswered on Wednesday.
While nobody claimed responsibility for the attack immediately, suspicion immediately decreased on Iran. Tehran and Israel are being connected in a yearslong cloud war in the broader Middle East, with some drone attacks which target Israeli-associated vessels travelling around the region.
The U.S. blamed Iran for a series of attacks in the United Arab Emirates in 2019. Tehran then started escalating its nuclear agenda after the U.S.′ unilateral withdrawal from its atomic agreement with world powers.
