The landslide in Selangor, on the outskirts of Singapore, occurred at 3 a.m. on the side of a road closer to an organic farm with camping, the state fire and rescue department stated in a statement.

Over 90 people were caught in the landslide, and 60 were found safe, with 25 misses, according to a piece of news on social media by the Agency of National Disaster Management.

In addition to the nine expired, seven were injured, it added.

District police chief Suffian Abdullah stated that the dead were Malaysians and included a child regarding five years old.

He told a news conference that almost 400 people from several agencies are, with search-and-rescue efforts ongoing.

The landslide fell from an estimated 30 meters (100 ft) above the campsite. According to the department’s fire and rescue state director, it covered an area of almost one acre (0.4 hectares).

Footage from local television is experiencing the aftermath of a large landslide through a steep, forested area beside a road. In contrast, different images on social media show rescue workers clambering over thick mud, significant trees and other debris.

The disaster struck about 50km north of Kuala Lumpur in Batang Kali town, just above the popular hilltop place of Genting Highlands, known for its resorts, waterfalls and natural beauty.

Pictures are posted on the Father’s Organic Farm Facebook page, witnessing a farmhouse in a little valley with a large area where the tents can be created.

Selangor is the most affluent state and has suffered landslides in the country, often connected to forest and land clearance.

The area is in its rainy season, but no heavy rain or earthquakes were recorded for the night.
