
Microsoft is placed to register quarterly profits after the bell
April 26, 2023: On Tuesday, Microsoft will report financial third-quarter revenue after the close of regular trading.
Revenue is related to being up 3% from a year earlier, marking a second quarter of growth of less than 10%. Before that, the percentage expanded had doubled in every quarter from 2017.
Results are anticipated to be weakest in Microsoft’s computing division, including Windows operating system licenses sold to PC makers, Xbox consoles, and Surface devices. Research company Gartner estimated that PC shipments were refused 30% in the quarter.
Microsoft’s Azure cloud business remains bright, but growth is slowing. Analysts surveyed by CNBC expect a 26.5% increase from a year earlier, while it was polled by StreetAccount predicts a 27.2% increase. Microsoft is not revealing the size of its Azure firms in dollars.
In the next financial quarter, revenue from Azure and other cloud services increased by 31%, decreasing from 35% in the prior period.
Investors have one more reason to be excited about Azure, aligning itself with ChatGPT maker OpenAI.
During the quarter, Microsoft started a recent multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI. It said it would draw on the company’s artificial intelligence models for a recent version of its Bing search engine and betterment to the Microsoft 365 productivity software.
Microsoft shares have risen 17% this year, while the S&P 500 index is below 8%, similar to a similar period.
Executives will witness the consequences with judges and issue guidance on a meeting call beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
