August 27, 2021: According to CNBC, Microsoft has hired Charlie Bell, an Amazon cloud executive, as a corporate vice president.

The move represents a victory for them, whose Azure cloud business tries to take share from market-leading Amazon Web Services.

Bell was known as a candidate to become the head of AWS once Amazon chose Andy Jassy, the AWS CEO, to lead the whole Amazon.

Bell was from one of Amazon’s S-team of top leaders. As a senior vice president, his responsibilities included pricing, software development service operations, and financial results; CNBC reported that Bell had left Amazon earlier this month.

It’s not clear what Bell will do at Microsoft initially. According to a copy that CNBC viewed, he was listed under the organization of Kathleen Hogan, an executive vice president, and chief human resources officer of Microsoft, on a Microsoft corporate directory.

That location inside it is unusual given Bell’s 15 years of leadership at AWS and could be temporary.

Amazon has filed lawsuits against employees previously who have gone to competing companies. Amazon didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on its plans regarding Bell.

Bell didn’t respond to a request for comment. A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment on the move.

Business Insider reported on the appointment earlier on Wednesday
