Macao is back to much Covid testing

August 9, 2022: -Authorities in Macao instructed residents to conduct at least two days of Covid-19 tests after someone who crossed from the Chinese particular administrative region to the neighboring city Zhuhai was found to have been infected with the virus.

The move comes days following Macao starting to unwind stringent anti-Covid rules, including the resumption of travel to Zhuhai without quarantine from August 3.

On Sunday, the Macao government added that all of the city’s 700,000 residents should bring a sudden antigen test on Sunday and Monday and upload the results to the government’s website.

Thousands of residents that live near Macao’s border to Zhuhai and the Taipa district, sitting alongside the Las Vegas-style Cotai strip, must do official nucleic acid tests, the government added.

Authorities have sealed up the infected person’s apartment building and the supermarket where the person worked.

The former Portuguese colony had reported around 1,800 infections since mid-June when it came with its worst coronavirus outbreak that forced the shut the casinos and locked down the city.

Over 90% of Macao’s residents are fully vaccinated against Covid. Still, authorities have been completed after its worst coronavirus outbreak that forced the closure of casinos and locked down most of the city.
