Keisha Lance Bottoms

Keisha Lance Bottoms (January 18, 1970) is an American politician and lawyer currently serving as the 60th mayor of Atlanta, Georgia.
Bottoms is a member of the Democratic Party, Jack and Jill of America, and the State Bar of Georgia. Leading with an agenda focused on affordable housing and equity, she serves as Chair of the Community Development and Housing Committee and the Census Task Force for the United States Conference of Mayors. She also served on the board of Families First and advocates on adoption and foster care.
Bottoms was nominated as vice-chair of civic engagement and voter protection at the DNC for the 2021–2025 term by President Joe Biden and became one of the final four finalists for Biden’s running mate for the 2020 elections. On May 6, 2021, Bottoms announced that she would not seek reelection as Mayor of Atlanta in the 2021 election.
Under Mayor Bottoms’ leadership, the City of Atlanta led the historically successful staging of Super Bowl LIII. She was named one of Glamour’s 2020 women of the year. A lifelong public servant, she is the only Mayor in Atlanta’s history to have served in all three branches of government as a judge and City Council member before being sworn in as Mayor in 2017.
Among Mayor Bottoms’ notable accomplishments to date include establishing the City’s first fully-staffed Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, the appointments of an LGBTQ Affairs Coordinator, and a Human Trafficking Fellow. In 2020, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights (LCCR) Under Law awarded Mayor Bottoms the Distinguished Civil Rights Advocate Award. She was also honored as a BET 100 Entertainer and Innovator of the Year and named Smart Cities Dive’s 2020 Leader of the Year.
Bottoms was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and currently resides in historic Southwest Atlanta with her husband, Derek W. Bottoms, with their four children. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School and received her undergraduate degree from Florida A&M University. She also earned her Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law.
