Mayor of Phoenix, Arizona, US
Age: 39
Katherine Sarah Gallego (October 21, 1981) is the 62nd mayor of Phoenix, Arizona. She is America’s youngest big-city Mayor and the second elected female Mayor in Phoenix history.
Katherine Sarah Gallego grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a Harvard University graduate who later earned her MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A member of the Democratic Party, she served on the Phoenix City Council from 2014 to 2018. Before being elected to the Council, she worked on economic development and planning for the Salt River Project.
Being the mother of a young son, Katherine Sarah Gallego’s main focus was to make Phoenix a place where the children of this generation would later be able to call their home as adults.
After being elected to Phoenix City Council in 2013 and Mayor in 2019, Katherine Sarah Gallego’s ambition is to make Phoenix a leader in job creation by bringing manufacturing, healthcare, and high-paying jobs to Phoenix.
Phoenix is the fifth-largest city in the US and one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. With Katherine Sarah Gallego taking over the office, her three central policies to a sustainable, safe, and thriving city are to diversify the economy, strengthen infrastructure investment, and make Phoenix a better leader in sustainability. And with her record of proven results, Kate managed to lead the campaign to pass Phoenix’s citywide transportation plan through 2050. This plan was the largest local government commitment to transportation infrastructure in the country when it passed in 2015.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Mayor Katherine Sarah Gallego has been a leading voice to protect and support the residents in the city. She believes that cutting-edge medical care must be accessible to everyone and has been the city council lead on expanding Phoenix’s biomedical campus. She has also led efforts in ensuring equal pay for equal work and criminal justice reform. Mayor Gallego’s main ambition is to build a Phoenix city that works for everyone by increasing the quality of life for all residents.
