Jacinda Kate Laurell Ardern (July 26, 1980) is a politician and Leader of the New Zealand Labour Party and is the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand since 2017. At age 37, she became the country’s third female and first youngest prime minister after more than 150 years.
Born in Hamilton, Ardern grew up in rural Waikato. Before graduating with a Bachelor of Communications Studies in International Relations and Professional Communication from the University of Waikato, she attended Morrinsville College and joined the New Zealand Labour Party at age 18.
After university, Ardern worked in various roles in the government and business fields. She worked as an advisor to Prime Minister Helen Clark in the Government Cabinet Office in London.
