Iliana Malinova Iotova (24 October 1964) is a Bulgarian politician who has been serving as the Vice President of Bulgaria since 2017. During the second round of the 2016 presidential election, she was the running mate of Rumen Radev. She was also a European Parliament member from 2007 until she resigned in January 2017.

Iotova was born in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. She studied at the Lycée Français de Sofia and received her master’s degree in Bulgarian and French philology from the University of Sofia. She then specialized at the National School of Administration in Strasbourg, France, and the Center for European Studies (CEES) at the University of Strasbourg.


From 1990 to 1997, Iotova worked as a reporter, editor, director, and presenter at the Bulgarian National Television. She later worked as the director of the press service of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

During the 2005 national elections, Iotova was elected to the National Assembly. She became a Member of the European Parliament in 2007 and was later re-elected in 2014. There, Iotova was part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group.

From 2007 to 2009, Iotova served on the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection. She also served on the Committee on Fisheries and the Committee on Petitions from 2009 to 2014. From 2012 to 2013, she was a member of the Special Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption, and Money Laundering.

From the 2014 elections, Iotova served as vice-chairwoman of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs under chairman Claude Moraes’ leadership. Ahead of Bulgaria’s 2016 presidential elections, Iotova was nominated as the Bulgarian Socialist Party’s running mate for Rumen Radev. After her election to Vice Presidency, she resigned her MEP seat.
