Hong Kong is not including hotel quarantine for visitors for three days or any home medical surveillance
August 9, 2022: -Hong Kong is decreasing the number of periods travelers need to serve hotel quarantine from seven days down to three from Friday.
“The seven-day quarantine hotel arrangement will be evolved to three days in a quarantined hotel, plus four days of home medical surveillance,” Chief Executive John Lee said on Monday.
After finishing the hotel quarantine, travelers can visit at home or in a hotel for four days of surveillance. In this period, people will be able to leave their residence but cannot enter “places where there is active checking of vaccine passes,” Lee said in Cantonese.
That includes bars, pubs, gyms, and beauty parlors. During surveillance, people are also not allowed to visit nursing homes, schools, or specified medical premises.
“They cannot participate in different activities where masks are to be taken off,” Lee added. If they test negative on a sudden antigen test, they can take public transportation, go to work and enter shopping malls, he said.
“We must strike a balance between risk level and economic activity. Where risks could be controlled, preserving maximum movement of people and maintaining Hong Kong’s competitiveness,” Lee said.
Hong Kong is putting strict border controls to stem the spread of Covid. But many had left the Chinese city as restrictive measures were heavier on residents while most of the world opened up.
Secretary for Health Lo Chung-man said, based on trends of imported cases, 80% of infections are picked up within three days.
“An additional four nights in a quarantined hotel that means seven nights in a quarantined hotel is not cost-effective, and it will also affect Hong Kong’s relationship with the world,” he said at the same press conference.
The airline shares of Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong increased 2.36% following the announcement.
