EU has banned the sale of recent diesel gasoline cars from 2035

November 2, 2022: The EU is planning to phase out the sale of recent diesel and gasoline cars and vans and is taking a big step forward following the European Council and European Parliament reached a provisional agreement regarding the problem

The European Parliament stated that EU negotiators are okay with a deal related to the European Commission’s recommendation for “zero-emission road mobility by 2035.”

The plan seeks to slash CO2 emissions from the recent vans and passenger cars by 100% from 2021 levels and is constituting an effective ban on recent diesel and gasoline vehicles. The European Commission is the EU’s executive branch.

The parliament said more diminutive automakers building up to 10,000 new cars or 22,000 recent vans could be given a derogation, or exemption, by 2035.

It added that “those accountable for below 1,000 new vehicle registrations per year summary to be exempt.”

Formal approval of the deal from the European Council and European Parliament is required before it takes effect.

Transport & Environment, a Brussels-based campaign group, held Thursday’s news. “The days of the carbon-spewing, pollution-belching combustion engine are yet numbered,” Julia Poliscanova, T&E’s senior director for cars and e-mobility, says.

Others commenting on the plans also add the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. A statement said it’s now urging “European policymakers to shift into more additional elevated gear to deploy the enabling conditions for zero-emission mobility.”

“This extremely far-to-reach decision is without precedent,” added its chair, Oliver Zipse, the CEO of BM. “The European Union will now be the foremost worldwide area to go all-electric.”

“Make no mistake, the European automobile industry is up to the challenge of giving these zero-emission cars and vans,” he added.

“However, we are keen to see the framework conditions essential to meet this target reflected in EU policies.”

“These include much renewable power, a seamless less and public charging infrastructure network, and get to raw fabrics,” he further said.
