May 10, 2022: -On Thursday, Fijian authorities seized a $300 million superyacht that belonged to sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, the Department of Justice announced.

The move to confiscate the almost 350-foot motor yacht Amadea in Lautoka, Fiji, comes as Western governments intensify efforts to track, identify, and take away the assets worldwide that belong to Russians with ties to the Kremlin.

In March, the Biden administration announced a recent task force, dubbed KleptoCapture, to sweep U.S. and allied sanctions imposed on Russian elites who helped finance President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked war in Ukraine.

“In the previous month, I warned that the department was aiming at every yacht purchased with dirty money,” Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco wrote. “This yacht seizure should tell all the corrupt Russian oligarchs that they cannot hide, not even in the remotest part of the world. We will use all the means of enforcing the sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war in Ukraine,” Lisa added.

The Justice Department estimated Kerimov’s yacht is worth $300 million. The Cayman-flagged motor yacht is reported to have an interior layout that can welcome up to 16 guests in 8 cabins and consists of a helipad.

They had seized the world’s largest superyacht in the previous month after official confirmation that the vessel was connected to Russian billionaire and business tycoon Alisher Usmanov, said the German authorities.

According to a senior Biden administration official, German authorities initially restricted the stunning superyacht from leaving its anchorage on March 3, with knowledge of the matter.

After Usmanov’s mother, Dilbar’s yacht extends over 500 feet and is equipped with two helipads and the largest indoor swimming pool installed on a private vessel. According to the estimate by Treasury Department, Usmanov’s yacht is worth nearly $735 million.
